One of the greatest privileges of working at 97ZOK is getting to honor teachers in the Rockford region every week.

This week, we're putting the spotlight on a special needs teacher in Loves Park.

97ZOK's new Teacher of the Week is Holly Pietrzak from Walter Lawson Children’s Home

Holly was nominated for this honor by Brittany Soder, she writes:

"Mrs. Pietrzak is selfless, resourceful, and loving. She is a Special Needs teacher working at Walter Lawson. They always say it takes a special person to work with special needs kids. She is a very special person. She loves working with not only kids but special needs adults as well. She is always looking for new ideas and adaptations to help the children learn in creative and fun ways!

One day she hunted in the woods for acorns just to make a sensory bin for her students for fall theme curriculum. Even with covid and working with such fragile students she has been resourceful and adapting activities to meet the children's needs. Not only is she an amazing teacher in the classroom but she has taken time out of her day to visit adult residents at a group home. She brings them gifts and toys to brighten their day. She has even taken some home on the holidays when family isn't able. She even invited some to come to her wedding to share her special day with her.

She is genuine and has a big heart. Her dedication to her students is admirable. That why I think she should be Teacher of the Week. It is much deserved!"

Congratulations, Holly!
