Built in 1895, this Illinois church was once a sacred place for worship. Now, it sits vacant with the only activity within the desecration by heartless vandals.

I suppose I should not be surprise that this church has been taken over by vandals since it sits in the south side of Chicago, but the level of damage it's suffered in only 5 years since it closed is staggering.

An urban explorer on YouTube that specializes in Midwestern buildings like this that are now empty recently shared a brief walkthrough of this church.

What used to be the altar and sanctuary now looks like this.

The damage isn't restricted to the sanctuary. Adjacent rooms in this Chicago church are as bad if not worse.

With a building containing so much history and memories for so many families, you would think there might be a process of preservation and/or restoration that could be used to help a location like this. I realize that the money for this type of project can't come out of thin air, it's hard to fathom that this church just sits waiting for the next vandal to come in and disrespect it. Don't know about you, but I'd prefer that the building be torn down instead of letting this happen.

As it stands (quite literally), it's another urban exploration of a once grand building that now decays and rots.
