I think most people would agree that the Coronado Performing Arts Center is one of Rockford, Illinois' true treasures.

This exquisite theater is well known for its beautiful architecture, the vast array of entertainment that you can see there, and even some pretty spooky paranormal stories. The one thing I have never heard anyone talk about before though is the Coronado's pretty funky bathroom situation.

Why Do Men Have More Ways to Get to the Bathroom at the Coronado?

I'll admit it's been a few years since I have been to the Coronado, but I know that as a woman, heading to the bathroom there is no quick trip. You have to walk towards the entrance and go down a long set of staircases to reach the ladies' bathroom, and if you waited too long to get out of your seat, you may have a serious situation on your hand. What I didn't realize before today is that the bathroom situation for men at the Coronado is a whole lot easier.

Rockford Register Star reader named Sally recently posed this question to Jim Hagerty of the RRStar series, "Why Jim";

Why can men take both staircases down to the men's restroom at the Coronado Performing Arts Center in Rockford, but women can only take one staircase to their restroom?

Hmm...why is that, Jim? Inquiring women need to know.

Here's what Jim had to say about the Coronado's tricky stair problem...

when the Coronado was built in the 1920s, men often escorted their wives or female companions to the lower-level restrooms. When that was the case, couples took the staircase that still leads to a vestibule, from which the men's and women's restrooms can be accessed.

FYI, the Coronado's second staircase leads directly to the men's room, and although I am quite fascinated by that answer, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't slightly peeved. LOL!
