Wild Animals Are Getting Braver In Wisconsin

If you spend any time on the internet or social media, I'm sure you have noticed there have been a lot of videos posted featuring strange animal sightings in Wisconsin. I'm talking about the ones you don't expect to see there, especially in the southern part of the state. There's been bobcats, cougars, and bears to just name a few. It seems like for the last couple of years, these kinds of animals have become much braver and wandering closer to humans to find food.

Beware Of The Bears

Officials from the Wisconsin Department Of Natural Resources have issued a bear warning for the state. The population of the animal has increased quite a bit in the last several years. Though they normally like to hang out in the woods, their strong sense of smell will lead them to more residential areas. Once they find a consistent food source they will continue to return to that area. The WDNR suggests not leaving any kind of food out at your cabin, campground, or home. Otherwise, you might as well just hang up a "welcome all bears" sign.

What To Do If You Run Into A Bear

If you happened to run into a bear, there are a few things you can do for safety. From a safe distance, wave your arms and make a lot of noise. Back up slowly and move away until the bear is gone. Don't corner a bear. Find a fast and simple escape. Do not run away. Never approach a bear. Stay calm. Avoid breaking up a fight between animals. Like the WDNR says, be alert for bears in your area.
