One great way for citizens to be involved with their community and to have their voice heard is to become a member of the neighborhood alliance program. The City Website had a ton information for you and you can always call Abby Shelton, City Coordinator, at 270-687-8557.

The Alliance groups have regularly scheduled meetings with leadeship appointed by the Mayor. The appoval of the City Commission is also required. It is one way to maintain the individual nature of Owensboro's many diverse neighborhoods and still maintain the feel of a City.

The uniqueness of each neighborhood and it's individual needs and requirements are more easily brought to the attention of leaders when there is an organized group to communicate with City Hall on behalf of the residents.

We have listed the Neighborhood meetings scheduled for October. Hopefully you can attend the one closest to you and become involved. Streets, sidewalks, police and fire protection, parks, etc. are all topics where Alliances are helpful to their neighborhoods.
