Check out my guest, professional musician friend Randy Lanham playing his fiddle on a Shaped by Faith stability ball. Randy has spine/back issues and he was surprised to find out that sitting on the Ball while playing his fiddle feels really good! By the way, Randy is using his amazing talents and gifts to bring glory and honor to God! He credits his musical ability to God alone!

All of my students will bear witness to this—I am borderline obsessed with the stability ball! I even use the ball at home, while working on my computer. In fact, I wrote my entire book, Shaped by Faith sitting on my stability ball. I can tell you first hand that typing for hours while sitting on the ball made my back feel aligned and my abdominals strong.

So what is the stability ball? The stability ball is like a large, sturdy beach ball. It challenges our workouts by placing our bodies in an unstable environment, which forces us to recreate balance without having two feet on solid ground. The ball improves balance and flexibility and strengthens the core, spine, hip flexors, and leg muscles. I highly encourage you to buy a stability ball for yourself, or use one at your gym.

When purchasing a stability ball, there are a few things to consider. I recommend buying an antiburst ball, which won’t pop easily and can hold up to five hundred pounds. I avoid using the shiny looking balls, which are challenging to work with because of their slick surface. I use a ball with a thicker and stickier outer surface. Fitness balls come in all different sizes and choosing the correct size depends on your height. To determine correct size, you should be able to sit on a ball with your knees bent at a 90-degree angle.

If you are purchasing a ball, find a good size for you using this list:
•    Up to 5’4 use a 45 cm
•    5’5 to 5’7 use 55 cm
•    5’8 to 6’ use 65 cm
•    Over 6’ use 75 cm
