A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to restrict westbound traffic to one lane on US 60 in western Hancock County on and off for the next several months.

A work zone is expected to go up today for westbound traffic on US 60/Lewisport-Hawesville Road from about Nugent Lane at mile point 9.345 at the west edge of Hawesville running westward to Vastwood Park Road at mile point 8.122. This lane restriction is for phase one of a project to widen the westbound lanes of US 60 between Hawesville and Lewisport.

Initially, all westbound traffic will move to the right-hand or driving lane in this work zone. Motorists should slow down and be alert for equipment, flaggers, and construction personnel along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.

Yager Materials of Owensboro is the prime contractor on this $1.2 million highway improvement project. This project has an expected completion date of December 1st
