Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Events like this Saturday's Colon Screening for Life 5K look to put and end to that.

Unfortunately, colorectal cancer is something I'm all too familiar with as my wife has an uncle who was diagnosed with the disease a few years ago, which is why she and I, along with our two young kids will be participating this Saturday.

Kicking off at Old National Bank headquarter in downtown Evansville, the day begins with opening ceremony festivities at 7:00am with the run/walk itself starting at 8:00am. For those who are unable to complete the full 5K, but would still like to participate, a one mile run/walk is available. A Kids Dash for younger participants is also available.

Registration can be done online, or by mailing the registration form to the St. Mary's Digestive Care Center at 801 St. Mary’s Drive, Suite 205. Registration may also be done in person at the Digestive Care Center office. Entry fee is $25 for both the 5K and the one mile run/walk, with the Kids Dash available for free.
