Angels for Ashley Cooking Team Prep for St. Jude Cookout With Awesome New Smoke Shack

The Whitesville Mercantile made for a very busy Wednesday in east Daviess County as Jerry Morris and the Angels for Ashley Cooking Team got the ball rolling on the 2023 St. Jude Cookout, which will happen Thursday and Friday during WBKR/Window World St. Jude Radiothon.

I'm not sure when Jerry and his team joined our St. Jude team, but it's been more than a decade. And their presence at Shoe Stop--the old location at Towne Square North and the current location in Wesleyan Park Plaza--has aided immeasurably in the radiothon soaring past its goals each and every year.

This year, the Angels for Ashley Cooking Team upped its game with a brand new smoke shack Jerry's son Doodle Morris and his crew built last Friday.

Jerry and the cooking team planned to START selling chickens at 3 PM Wednesday afternoon. As it turns out, they were sold OUT of those chickens by 3 PM Wednesday afternoon. But not to worry; they just put a whole lot more on the smoker.

Jerry and his crew--which includes a LARGE number of family members--get started early on Wednesday for the St. Jude Cookout. But now that they have this awesome smoke shack planted firmly on the grounds of the Whitesville Mercantile--right as you come into town--it's too visible not to draw fans who want some delicious chickens, racks of ribs, and Boston butts.

By the way, in case you were wondering, those extraordinary Boston butts--which look as amazing as they taste--cook for five to six hours at 300 degrees. And yes, there will be plenty. Doodle said the butts, chickens, and racks of ribs number in the thousands.

That means Jerry Morris and the Angels for Ashley Cooking Team are going to raise a LOT of money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
