Apollo Senior to Play for Kentucky All-Stars Hoops Team
The only time I ever met Tubby Smith (and "met" might be too strong a word) was at the Kentucky/Indiana All-Stars Game back in the 2000s during his tenure at the University of Kentucky.
Likely present to do some scouting, the former Wildcats and current High Point head coach was out in a hall in a crowd and I hollered, "Hey Tubby," and waved like a big geek. He waved back and that was it.
Even if he hadn't been scouting, he, like the rest of us, was treated to an exciting game between two groups of promising young men and women hoping to fulfill their own "hoop dreams."
In 2021, one such Apollo High School senior will be doing the same thing. She is Amber Dunn, a member of the AHS E-Gals, and she will be a part of the Kentucky All-Stars team on June 11th at the Owensboro Sportscenter.
Dunn's impressive performance on the court this past season--which included helping her team advance to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Sweet 16 after winning the regional championship--led to her selection by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches.
But throughout the rest of her high school career, Amber has been no less notable.
With 915 career points, she is the 19th all-time leading scorer in Apollo E-Gals history. She's also an accomplished glass cleaner, pulling down a remarkable 707 rebounds over the last four years.
Among Dunn's accomplishments is being named to the 3rd Region All-Tournament team, having connected on 53% of her shots during the 2020-21 season.
Additionally, according to a press release from Daviess County Public Schools, she was stuffing the stat sheet during a season in which she had to sit out for a time due to an ankle injury.
Amber hasn't made a decision on a college yet, but wherever she lands, she'll be an immediate asset.
And, in the meantime, we can enjoy her talents on the Sportscenter hardwood this June.
Congratulations, Amber.
