Big Rattlesnake Found at Kentucky Lake This Weekend

As summer comes to an end brand-new life springs forth in the form of baby snakes! It's baby snake season in Kentucky and here's what you need to know if you plan on being out and about.

THEY'RE HATCHING EVERYWHERE

Momma snakes usually give birth in late August and early September and can be found in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Missouri in the WBKR listening area.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR

Many of the snakes found in the Tri-State area are harmless. The most dangerous snake is the Timber Rattlesnake. Copperhead snakes are also hatching. These two snakes can be found mainly in the woods or wooded areas. The Timber Rattlesnake is one of the most dangerous snakes in North America and its venom can be deadly. The copperhead venom is not nearly as dangerous however if a person is bitten they would need to seek medical attention immediately. They move most often in the afternoon and evening when the weather cools down.

HOW TO AVOID SNAKES

Here are the best ways to avoid snakes according to Wikihow;

Realize that the majority of snakes do not seek an encounter with humans.
Walk with someone
Dress Appropriately
Know what to be wary of in the snake's body language.
Stay alert when walking and watch where you're going.
Stick to walking paths as much as possible.
Step upon before stepping over or you could surprise a snake.
Keep your hands to yourself.
Watch where you sit and/or take a bathroom break.
