City Issues Another “White Flag” Emergency And Opens Warming Shelters
The forecast for the rest of this week is predicting the wind chill to be below 15 degrees and very cold temperatures, along with snow. This calls for extra measures to keep everyone in our city out of the elements.Owensboro's has released its second White Flag of the season. This plan was created by the Homeless Council of the Ohio Valley. Whenever temperatures or wind chills drop below 15 degrees an alert is issued.
The White Flag shelter will take place at The Salvation Army, at 215 Ewing Road, Owensboro, Ky 42301, from 4:00 pm-6:00 am if all other shelter beds are full.
During the day those needing shelter can head to the Daniel Pitino Shelter. They provide breakfast at (8:00 am), lunch (11:00 am), and dinner (5:30).
Anyone needing shelter during this period is encouraged to go to the Daniel Pitino Shelter at 501 Walnut Street, after 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be provided for everyone before being bused to the Salvation Army by GRITS.
