Did You Ever Wonder Why Illinois Has Such Bad Traffic, Here’s Why
If you ever wondered why Illinois has such bad traffic, here is the reason why.
Driving In Illinois Sucks
If you ever drive around the state of Illinois, especially in the city of Chicago, you have probably figured out the obvious. Driving here sucks. There always seems to be traffic, no matter when or where you are going. Recently, I have made a couple of trips into the Windy City for some events. It took forever to get there. I was so frustrated.
The Illinois Highways Can Not Handle The Congestion
My mom grew up in Chicago and she has told me many times through the years, that once they finished the highways into the city, they were already obsolete. If that is true, then the drivers in Illinois never even had a chance.
A Big Reason For Traffic Issues In Illinois
Of course, there are many reasons why traffic throughout Illinois and Chicago is so bad but there is a big problem that causes many issues. That is truck bottlenecks.
What Is A Truck Bottleneck?
According to truckingresearch.org,
"The impact of traffic congestion on truck-borne freight."
"Congestion and mobility constraints on the U.S. highway transportation system."
"Consequences for freight mobility."
Illinois Is Home To Four Of The Top Forty Traffic Bottlenecks In The United States
I am definitely not surprised that Illinois is home to four of the top forty worse traffic bottlenecks in the United States. That has a huge impact on slow-moving highways in our state.
Here are those terrible roads.
- #6: I-290 at I-90 / I-94
- #19: I-80 at I-94
- #23: I-90 at I-94 (south)
- #38: I-90 at I-94 (north)
I have driven in those areas many times in my life and I definitely agree that they are horrible. Maybe, I will try to avoid them in the future.
