Now, before you get too excited, you need to know that it's in Memphis.  However, Malco Theatres owns and operates a drive-in.

The Malco opened the property way back in 1950.  When the Malco Summer Drive In first opened, there was a single screen.  In 1966, a second screen was added.  Today, according to Karen Melton, Vice President & Director of Marketing for the Malco, the drive in is home to four screens.

The Malco Summer Drive-In is located at 5310 Summer Avenue in Memphis. Here's a recent video history of the landmark by Local 24 Memphis.

While the drive-in is now seventy years old, Malco Theatres have been around for over a century and has a storied history here in Owensboro as well.

On January 25th, 1968, The Empress Theatre at 418 Frederica Street became the Malco Downtown Owensboro.  Since that time, the Malco has owned and operated the Mall Twin, the Plaza Twin and Malco Cinemas 16.  The company, last year, opened the all-new Owensboro Cinema Grill at 2700 Calumet Trace inside the Gateway Commons development.
