Do You Like Housekeepers to Clean Your Room at a Hotel?
I realize this is random, but I had a weird, recent change of heart personally. I used to always prefer to have my hotel rooms cleaned day-to-day by housekeepers. That is until my friend David abruptly changed my mind. Now, I immediately hang the "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door. Let me explain.
A couple of years ago, my friend David Bristow and I were in Cincinnati for the Western and Southern Open, which is a huge professional tennis tournament in Mason, Ohio. We happened to be there the same days and David had already booked a hotel room and he invited me to just crash with him. So, I did.
And, when I arrived at the hotel late that evening, I went to the room and David immediately took the "Do Not Disturb" sign and put it on the door. He said, "I don't like people walking around where I sleep." I'll admit it . . . I kind of laughed at him and we joked about it. But he was serious. He left that sign on the door the entire length of his stay. He tidied his room up by himself daily without the help of hotel staff. And, you what?
I have been doing the same thing ever since!! In fact, last weekend, when Angel and I were down in Memphis at the Peabody Hotel, I did it again.
As soon as I checked in, I took the "Don't Ruffle My Feathers" sign, placed it outside on the door, and made my bed and straightened up my bathroom myself every single day. Now, I don't have a fear of people walking where I sleep. But, I do prefer the extra sense of privacy I get with having that sign dangling from the doorknob. If I want to leave my clothes laying around the room, I can. If I don't want to store my laptop, I don't have to (though maybe that's dumb).
But I want to know your thoughts on this. Do YOU like to have your hotel rooms cleaned by housekeeping or are you on Team David? Do you grab that "Do Not Disturb" sign and proudly display it on the door?
