Last year, the Daviess County High School Panthers won the inaugural Big Red Battle. This year, the Owensboro High School Red Devils want a rematch and they're about to get it. The Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center just announced plans for the Big Red Battle II and it gets underway on Monday, August 29th!
Here's how it works!
The DCHS Panthers and the OHS Red Devils are set to play their annual rivalry game on Friday, September 2nd at Rash Stadium. To get the teams geared up for the game and to help out a tremendous community cause in the process, the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center, which provides blood and blood products to nine different medical facilities in the region, is hosting a blood drive that pits football team against football team.
Students, players, parents, coaches and fans are asked to turn out and give blood in support of their favorite team. The winning team will be announced at half time of the rivalry game on the 2nd.
Those donating on behalf of Daviess County will receive a black t-shirt and will help raise money for Raise RED. $5 will be donated for each successful blood donation in honor of the Panthers. OHS Students who donate will receive a ticket to the rivalry game and get a red t-shirt for their blood donation.
The donation schedule is as follows:
OHS Students/Faculty Bloodmobile at OHS Monday August 29th Noon-5pm
DCHS Students/Faculty Bloodmobile at DCHS Wednesday August 31st Noon-7pm
Then, on Friday (Game Day) fans of both teams can donate from 3pm to 7pm (official kickoff time) at WKRBC's bloodmobile, which will be park at Rash Stadium at Owensboro High School. That evening, limited edition T-shirts, 100 of each schools' custom t-shirt, will be available and up for grabs for donations. So please plan to arrive and donate early.

For interested parents and fans, you are welcome to donate at the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center's office at 3015 Old Hartford Road in Owensboro during normal business hours.
Those hours are:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 8:30 am to 5:30 pm
Tuesday 8:30 am to 8:00 pm
Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
Last year's Big Red Battle drew 169 donors and produced over 500 blood components stocked on the WKRBC shelves just in time for the Labor Day Holiday Weekend. We're hoping to top that impressive result with the 2022 Battle.
