Fundraisers Benefit Family, Celebrates Life of Kenny Horn

Chances are if you called WaxWorks to order movies, or the customer service line at Independence Bank throughout the years, you've come in contact with Kenny Horn. He loved his family, his friends, the outdoors, and great 70s' music. Kenny passed away at the age of 57 on Friday, leaving a community devastated. As tributes pour in, lets remember Kenny, and support those that he left behind.

How to best describe Kenny? Well, this really isn't all that hard. I worked with Kenny for close to 20 years at WaxWorks, and the one thing that I remember most is that he's really funny. He's a carefree guy, and I truly don't remember ever hearing him say a cross word about anyone. His life lit up the most after he met Maureen, his wife. Of course, the best was still yet to come. The best was when his son Kaleb was born, and he became a first time Dad. He was always hands on with his son. If it was the Scouts, a sporting event, or just hanging out at home, Kenny was always proud of Kaleb. He was truly a special man that COVID took way too soon. He fought the virus so very  hard. He wanted to live for his family, but his body got so very weak. Kenny passed away on Friday, February 26th, 2021.

His wife Maureen shared the heartbreaking news on social media. "I am saddened to say that I have lost the love of my life tonight, but I know he is in heaven watching over us. It was hard to face this moment but I know he is not suffering anymore although he fought hard against this virus. I feel in my heart that Kenny didn’t realize how sick he actually was but he was worried about me and Kaleb. Please continue praying and supporting us and appreciate everything everyone did during this ordeal. My heart is so heavy right now that this virus beat him but Kenny had a big spirit and I know he will take care of us from heaven!"

A memorial service for Kenny was held on Saturday, March 6th, 2021 at Bellevue Baptist Church in Owensboro.

Memorial contributions can be made to an Educational Trust Fund for Kaleb Horn, c/o any Independence Bank in Owensboro. Memories and condolences to the family can be shared at www.glenncares.com.

*There will also be a cookout fundraiser for the family at Independence Bank on Frederica Street in Owensboro. The cookout will happen on Friday, March 12th, 2021 from 11AM to 1PM. During the event it will all be donations to benefit the Horn family. Come out and grab a burger, hot dog, chips, and drink.

*Stop by St. Joseph and Paul Parrish Hall in Owensboro for a drive-thru, pick-up, and collection fundraiser. Chickens are just $10, cup of dip is $5 and Boston Butts are $35. All meats will be pre-sold, so be sure to get your orders in by March 8th. All donations will be accepted during this pre-sale only event. Meat pick-up will be Friday, March 12th, 2021 between 11AM and 1PM.

My dear friend Johnny Maglinger summed up Kenny's life perfectly.

He had such a claim on life it’s not fair
he did not live; kept fresh for another
day that he could welcome as an ally,
assured it would lead to another kiss
from his wife and hug from his son.

But he began to withdraw into himself,
leave this time for a coming time and
the pull of the coming time took him
off his feet, drew off his breath, held
him there, and refused to let go.

And when the end of this time
— his time — struck its final chord
what did he leave behind except
the memories his wife and son can
hold in their arms because he is still
there to comfort them.
