Furniture Row Racing Ceasing Operations at End of 2018 Season
The reigning NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series champion will need to find a new ride before next season commences.
Furniture Row Racing has announced it will cease operations at the end of the 2018 season. Martin Truex Jr. has driven the No. 78 Chevy for the team since joining four years. ago. The team cites lack of necessary funding to continue.
The move also comes at primary sponsor 5-Hour Energy announced in July it would no longer be a part of NASCAR after this season.
The team will leave a Cup charter behind to sell which will be one of the most sought after because charters guarantee a starting spot in each race. One portion of team payments is based on performance in the past three years; Furniture Row has made the playoffs (the Chase) the past two years and they will again this year. Truex is currently third in the Cup standings.
Based in Denver, Colorado, Furniture Row Racing made its debut in 2005 as an Xfinity team. The team's first Cup victory came at the 2011 Southern 500 with driver Regan Smith. The team has secured 17 victories with Truex. Past drivers for Furniture Row include Kurt Busch, Erik Jones, Kenny Wallace, Joe Nemechek, and Jimmy Spencer.
