The Owensboro Parks and Recreation Department’s 23rd Annual Ghosts and Goblins in the Park is moving to Smothers Park on the river front. Ghosts and Goblins in the Park is a two-day event comprising of Owensboro’s largest trick-or-trick event Trail of Treats, along with Halloween Fun Day.

Trail of Treats will take place from 5:30 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 25 along Veterans Boulevard in front of Smothers Park. It will also incorporate the Owensboro Museum of Science and History, The Crème Coffee House, BeeBops Diner, The Famous Bistro, and the Owensboro-Daviess County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Trail of Treats is a trick-or-treat path where businesses and organizations decorate their booths and/or business and give out candy to local children and their families. Informational maps will be available the evening of the event on Second Street at the corners of Daviess, Allen, and St. Ann street. You can download maps here.

In addition, the following activities will take place throughout the evening at Riverfront Crossing:

Owensboro Museum of Science & History (science project) 5:30-8 p.m., Owensboro Museum of Fine Art (Scarecrow Craft) 5:30-8 p.m., Studio Slant (face painting) 5:30-8 p.m., Dreamcopy Photography (Photos) 5:30-8 p.m., live magic show at 6 p.m., and the KWC Theatre Players performing at 7 p.m. Also, at 6 p.m. on the Riverpark Center Patio, the movie “Shrek Forever After” will be shown. All activities are free and open to all ages.

Halloween Fun Day will take place in Smothers Park on Saturday, October 27 beginning at 11 a.m. with the Howl’oween Dog Costume Contest, followed by magic shows at noon and 2 p.m., Miss Teen Earth story time at 12:30 p.m., and a children’s costume contest at 1 p.m. The costume contest is open for 3 years and under, 4-6 years, 7-8 years, 9-10 years, and also Family Theme. Prizes for first through third place will be awarded. Storytelling will wrap up the day’s events at 2:30 p.m.

Other activities throughout the day include Halloween crafts and face painting hosted by the Owensboro Youth Council from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and Balloon Twisting with the Owensboro Balloon Twisters from 1-3 p.m.

Halloween will be observed on Wednesday, October 31 within the city of Owensboro. Halloween is not an official holiday. Government offices and businesses are open as usual and public transit services run on regular schedules. If you drive around in late afternoon or evening, it is important to keep a careful lookout for children trick-or-treating.
