‘Girls’ Promotes Andrew Rannells to Series Regular…In Season 4?
Fans of Andrew Rannells' acerbic 'Girls' character Elijah were disappointed to see the actor taking a reduced role in season 2 to accommodate his commitment to NBC's 'The New Normal,' but, well, we all know how that turned out. Rannells has been confirmed to return for 'Girls' season 3 in 2014, but should the Lena Dunham-scripted dramedy make it to season 4 in 2015, Rannells will count himself among the series regulars.
Deadline revealed the news of Rannells potential promotion, though we'd be hard-pressed to imagine HBO would dream of passing on a fourth season of 'Girls,' given the notoriety and nominations Dunham and the cast and crew bring in for the pay cable network. Tony-nominated for his original role in 'The Book of Mormon,' Rannells has portrayed the role of Hannah (Dunham)'s gay ex-boyfriend Elijah in a guest capacity since the first season.
Elsewhere we know of ‘Girls’ season 3 that the expanded run 12 episodes, will likely see at least one of the characters entering rehab. Jon Hamm‘s wife Jennifer Westfeldt has been observed filming on the set, while Michael Zegen (‘Boardwalk Empire‘) has been announced in an unknown role, along with ‘Orange is the New Black‘ star Danielle Brooks. Other guest stars include ‘Doctor Who‘ star Richard E. Grant, ‘Crystal Fairy’ star Gabby Hoffmann, ‘The To Do List‘ star Sarah Steele and ‘Zero Hour‘ star Amir Arison, while former series star Christopher Abbott made an abrupt departure.
'Girls' season 3 will premiere on January 12, 2014, so in the meantime, check out the latest behind-the-scenes trailer below, and tell us what you want to see from the coming season in the comments!
