As we approach the busy holiday season, it's time for the American Red Cross to stock up on all types of blood. One of the reasons the need for blood goes up during the holidays, is that we are all so busy, and regular donors may not have time to give.

If you've never given blood before, here's a little info to answer your questions.

Registration — You will sign in, show an ID, and be asked to read some required information.

Health History and Mini-Physical — Answer some questions online or in a private interview, and receive a general health check.

The Donation — You'll be seated comfortably while a pint of blood is drawn. The actual donation only takes 8-10 minutes.

Refreshment and Recovery — After donating, you can enjoy a snack and a drink for 10-15 minutes before resuming your day. The entire donation process takes about an hour

Testing — Your blood is tested and sent to a patient in need. Learn more about what happens to donated blood.

You can help to save up to 3 lives every time you donate blood.

The American Red Cross is hosting an all-day drive today (11/25/19) From 6:00 A.M. - 7:00 P.M. If you donate during the Give Thanks, Give Life Blood Drive, you can enjoy some special refreshments. The breakfast donors will be treated to Donut Bank, lunch will be Chili and Butter Bread from Texas Roadhouse, and for dinner, Pasta and Breadsticks from Olive Garden, and dessert from The Pie Pan.

You can schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-REDCROSS or by visiting www.redcrossblood.org and using Sponsor Code: Give Thanks
