I woke up this morning and realized that someone sent me a text message just before midnight.  It was from the email address of someone named Jenny Jackson.  Well, I know a couple of Jenny Jacksons, but couldn't figure out why one of them would send me a text message in the middle of the night.  After all, everyone who knows me knows that I do a morning show and get up at 4am.

Well, like a fool, I responded, "Who is this?"  I didn't get a response back, but, just before 9am this morning, I got another random text message from another random email.  It appears I'm not alone.

Our friend Katie Bryant made a Facebook post to ask if anyone had gotten a similar "Call I call you?" message.

This is what Barb received.  This will illustrate what the messages look like.

April Michelle, who works at the Dollar General location in Philpot, sent us a message through the WBKR Facebook page.  She said, "Funny thing, I got the message 'Can I call you?' as soon as you mentioned it on the radio."  She says, like the text I received, that it was in the form of a text through email and she had no idea who sent it to her.

Savannah Gatton sent me an email about 9:40am this morning.  She said, "Crazy stuff going on this morning! I’m on my way to work listening to WBKR and hear you guys talk about the text message from an email address. As soon as y’all went to commercial, I got a text message from an email address!!!!!!"

I am no expert, but this wreaks of a phishing scam.  In fact, I am kicking myself for responding to the first message.  I have since deleted both the messages I received.  I suggest you do the same.

In the meantime, we'll keep you up-to-date on what we learn.

The U.S. Census 2019 American Community Survey and America's Health Rankings Senior Report 2019 data were also used to provide demographics on the senior population of each state and the state's rank on senior health care, respectively.
