Historic Yellow Creek Park Bridge Rehabilitation Planned

The Daviess County Fiscal Court has approved a rehabilitation and restoration project for this historic bridge located at Yellow Creek Park. Renovations on the bridge should get underway in February.

Whether you're having a family picnic, celebrating a birthday, planning a wedding or having a family reunion, Yellow Creek Park makes a perfect backdrop for the event. It's one of my favorite places in town to visit. Especially, in the fall. You can hike the nature trails, play some sports, walk your dog or spend time with the family. Nothing like putting down the electronics and breathing in the fresh air!

The bridges at Yellow Creek Park are a BIG part of those adventures. Much effort has always been put into keeping the park clean and maintaining those bridges for all to enjoy.

According to the announcement made today by the Daviess County Fiscal Court, work on the bridge should begin in February 2021 with a completion date no later than May 30, 2021.

The historic truss bridge at Yellow Creek Park dates back to 1897, and was originally located on State Highway 762, before it was moved to it's current home in 1985. It's in need of some repairs and upgrading. This is a great chance to revive a beautiful piece of history.

“Based on input from the community and a recommendation from the Parks Board, the County sought to preserve that gateway piece to the park,” explained Ross Leigh, Director of Parks & Recreation. “Our goal is for the bridge to be available for multiple generations to come.”
