There is little to no chance that health advocates will be able to apply enough pressure to Indiana lawmakers in order to warrant an extension of the statewide smoking ban to include neighborhood watering holes.

Although, some lawmakers, like Indiana representative Charlie Brown, believe that a tougher and more extensive smoking ban needs to be considered by the state – yet, it is doubtful that any such consideration will be heard during the current session.

Critics of further extending the smoking ban say that there is no need to implement stricter statewide laws because every city currently has the right to dictate the range of the ban. Evansville is a prime example of a city enforcing the ban to include bars.

Some legislators believe that no amendments to the law should be considered for a couple of years.
