Most Scenic Road You Can Drive in Illinois is Where 3 Rivers Meet
There are some pretty places you can drive in Illinois, but there is one that stands out above the rest. If you love rivers, you'll feel like you're in Heaven as it's the one Illinois place where 3 rivers meet.
There's a new look at the most scenic drives in each state by Love Exploring and they made a great choice for Illinois. You'll have to look hard here to not see a river nearby.
This is the Great Rivers National Scenic Byway which is described as "33 miles...witnessing the convergence of the fabled Mississippi, Missouri, and Illinois Rivers". This drive involves Illinois Routes 3, 143, and 100 and is easily accessible as it's nearby Alton, Illinois and just across the river from the St. Louis, Missouri area.
This is a relatively new scenic byway in America as it wasn't given its official designation until 1998, but it was worth the wait.
By the way, this scenic drive has another bonus which I don't hear many mention, but if you're a birder, there is no better drive in America. Much of the year, you'll see bald eagles along this route as they love being near the river. The National Scenic Byway Foundation estimates there are 230 different species of migrating birds that are commonly found along the Great Rivers National Scenic Byway.
By far, this is the most scenic drive you can make in Illinois and it's not just a bucket list item, but one of those trips you owe it to yourself to make as often as possible in your life. It's that special.
