One Kentucky city has landed on Condé Nast Traveler's list of "Best Places to Travel in May," and we can understand why.

"April Showers Bring May Flowers"

May has always been synonymous with blooming flowers, and the rich beautiful colors of spring. It is the perfect time to travel to break out of the winter blues and into a feeling of renewed energy.

"Best Places to Travel in May"

Condé Nast Traveler recently released its list of "Best Places to Travel in May." There are many beautiful and unique and exotic locations around the globe on the list including Galápagos Islands, Machu Picchu, and Zambia. Among the many breathtaking destinations on the list is one bustling city in the Bluegrass State.

This Kentucky City on the List of "Best Places to Travel in May"

One Kentucky city lands among the best places in the world to travel in the month of May with the thrill and excitement of live horseracing, fancy cocktails, and iconic hats. Of course, we're talking about Louisville, home of the Kentucky Derby.

You haven’t experienced true day drinking until you’ve sipped on a mint julep at Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby. Held this year on Saturday, May 4, the iconic horse race is a great excuse to spend a long weekend in Louisville. Your itinerary should, of course, prioritize spending time at Churchill Downs, where you can visit the Kentucky Derby Museum, sip cocktails, and enjoy some fine dining at one of the venue's many restaurants and lounges.

What Condé Nast Traveler doesn't mention though are all of the amazing neighborhoods within Louisville that should be on everyone's list, especially if traveling to Louisville for the first time.

Louisville Neighborhoods

There are many neighborhoods in Louisville that offer something for everyone. These are a few of my personal favorites:

  • The Highlands is a great eclectic, artsy neighborhood with some amazing vintage shops and delicious coffee.
  • NuLu has incredible eats and nightlife, and Quills is a must visit for coffee.
  • Old Louisville is the historic district full of stunning Victorian homes.
