It is CPR & AED Awareness Week, and the Owensboro Fire Department has shared something awesome that could come in handy should you need to perform CPR on someone. My friend and local firefighter, Andy Johnson, sent me their newest video with a list of songs that can be used to keep rhythm for chest compressions. So cool! Keep scrolling to see it.

CPR Saves Lives

"CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, can help save a life during cardiac arrest, when the heart stops beating or beats too ineffectively to circulate blood to the brain and other vital organs. However, even after training, remembering the CPR steps and administering them correctly can be a challenge," the American Red Cross shares.

Good CPR Songs 100-120 Beats Per Minute

I am not the authority on CPR by any means, but I know that chest compressions are one of the main components. We see that much in movies or TV shows. One thing that can help you mimic a good heart rhythm is to sing a song in your head that has 100-120bpm (beats per minute). Like these:

Stayin' Alive- The Bee Gees 104bpm (the gold standard CPR song)

Choosin' Texas- Ella Langley 112bpm

Another One Bites the Dust- Queen 112bpm

Pink Pony Club- Chappell Roan 107bpm

First Aid/CPR/AED Certification

According to the Red Cross, over 500,000 cardiac arrests occur each year, and knowing proper CPR techniques can mean the difference between life and death. They offer several different training opportunities, including online, in-person, or a combination of the two. You can click here to see what classes are available in your area.

Do you know of any songs that are good for this list? Share on the Facebook page or send us a message on the APP. It's good to be prepared! Stay safe and follow the Owensboro Fire Department for more helpful information.
