Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles Stars in Wicked-Looking ‘Exorcist’ Sequel
I was a good little boy. You know how good? I did not see an R-rated movie at the theater until I was 17, the age when you are finally allowed. So, no. There was no Halloween or Friday the 13th for me when they were released; I had to hear descriptions from others.
Who's Ready for an Exorcist Sequel Just in Time for Halloween?
And, of COURSE, there was no visit to a theater near me to watch The Exorcist. I was only 7 years old when that was released, so that makes perfect sense. In my opinion, NO 7-year-old should watch The Exorcist. I actually didn't see it for the first time until I was in my 20s and wondered if 24-YEAR-OLDS were old enough to watch it. In my humble opinion, it is the scariest movie ever made. I once bestowed that honor upon Se7en. But repeated viewing changed my mind.
So now I wonder how a new Exorcist sequel will stack up in the grand scheme of things. The most recent horror movie on my list of all-time favorites IS Se7en, even if most people consider it a crime drama. I will say this. The trailer for The Exorcist: Believer does look terrifying and features a great cast...including a key member from the ORIGINAL:
Will The Exorcist: Believer Pack a Similar Punch to the First One?
First of all, this new film faces an uphill battle--right out of the gate--with regard to comparisons to the first movie. And it hasn't even been released. So, when I wonder if it will contain iconic scenes LIKE what we saw in The Exorcist, I understand that they will only become iconic IF this one is even CLOSE to as good as its predecessor. I mean, will ANY movie ever be able to duplicate something like this?
In the new movie, Sugarland' Jennifer Nettles plays the mother of one of two girls possessed by a demon. Leslie Odom Jr. of Hamilton plays the father of the other. And what a cool surprise to see Ellen Burstyn return as Chris McNeil.
The Exorcist: Believer will hit theaters September 22nd, giving audiences plenty of time to soak in all the extreme Halloween vibes we know that franchise can deliver.
