It does my heart good to write about movies being made in Kentucky. Prior to a noticeable whirlwind of filmmaking activity beginning in 2022, the Commonwealth has been a not-very-uncommon destination for Hollywood directors.

Kentucky Movies

The same can be said for Hollywood's A-listers as well. Within the last few years, Al Pacino, It's Bill Skarsgard, Laura Linney, Ethan Hawke (as a director), and Robert DeNiro have spent a little time making movies here.

Kelsey Grammer to Play Kentucky Governor

And now we can add everyone's favorite TV psychiatrist to the list. Frasier star Kelsey Grammer will play the governor of Kentucky in an upcoming movie based on the inspiring story of Ethan Almighty, a neglected rescue dog whose survival inspired animal welfare legislation in the Bluegrass State. Indeed, Ethan, a Cane Corso, has quite an amazing story.

The four-time Emmy winner joined the cast and filmed his role on the final day of shooting. He also got a selfie with the "Cane-ine" of the Day himself.

The Story of Ethan Almighty

Emaciated with seemingly no hope of surviving, Ethan Almighty did just that and became a global celebrity in the process. His is a truly miraculous story.

KRS 525.135, otherwise known as "Ethan's Law," defines animal torture and identifies it as a Class D felony, carrying with it a penalty of up to five years in jail and a maximum fine of $10,000.

Ethan Almighty, which was filmed in Bardstown, Louisville, and Elizabethtown, also stars Selma Blair, Sean Patrick Flanery, and Brandon Routh. A release date has yet to be determined.

Scripted TV Series and Episodes Set in Kentucky

When any TV series or movie is set in Kentucky, it has my attention. I'd prefer they FILM in Kentucky (and sometimes they do both), but we can't have everything.
