My name is Mary-Katherine and I'm a proud Pepper! That's why when I came across the news that 1. Dr. Pepper is introducing a new hot flavor and 2. It's for the exclusive Pepper Perks members, that I had to investigate. First of all, how is there a fan club I'm just now learning about, and they have a new flavor? I am here for it. It's supposedly a spicier version of the 23 flavors we know and love.
While looking for more info about this new Dr. Pepper, I found a vintage ad with a recipe for Hot Dr. Pepper. This one isn't spicy though, it's hot temperature-wise. In the commercial, Dick Clark shows how an ice-cold Dr. Pepper is refreshing on a hot summer day. Something we all know and appreciate.
This is where he shared something I hadn't ever heard of before. He goes on to say that in the chilly winter months, Dr. Pepper can be a great treat to warm you up by following a few simple steps. Begin by pouring the beverage into a saucepan and simmering until steaming. Then just ladle it into a mug with a slice of lemon at the bottom and enjoy.
I have to be honest, even though I love Dr. Pepper, this seems a little gross to me. Wouldn't cooking the "pop" make the bubbles go away? Along with the lemon slices, I think it would take like cough syrup. Have you ever tried this? Let me know what you think.
