Save these dates! September 11th, 12th, and 13th, Owensboro, Kentucky will once again play host to the Special Olympics Kentucky State Softball Tournament. It will be held at Jack C. Fisher Park and the event will feature 40 teams and nearly 600 Special Olympics athletes and coaches.

Those 40 teams could feature up to 7 teams from right here in Owensboro-Daviess County. Last year, some of our local teams brought home gold medals in the three-day event and, this year, they're looking to go back-to-back. The SOKY softball season is just now getting underway and the race is on for teams to get qualified for the State Tournament.

Today, I was invited by Special Olympics Kentucky and Visit Owensboro to join some of our local athletes to create a hype video for one of the most popular events of State Softball Tournament Weekend- the Celebration Dance. It's set for 6pm to 8pm, Saturday, September 12th at the Owensboro Sportscenter. That particular event is not open to the public, but is open to SOKY athletes and their families.

This year's event will feature a huge dance, free popcorn, lemonade, and BINGO (for players who don't feel comfortable busting a move on the dance floor).

Local Director Kim Johnson, my athlete friends and I filmed a super fun "hype" video this morning that is coming soon to social media! So, be on the lookout for it.

And, by the way, the excitement for that weekend here in Owensboro is going to be HUGE! In addition to it being SOKY State Softball Weekend, it's also the Owensboro Air Show and the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will be in town. So, there will be fireworks on and off the playing field all over town!
