Get Ready For Franklin Street’s Gumbo Cook-Off

If you’re wanting Evansville to have a little more Fat Tuesday energy, consider this it. The 12th Annual Gumbo Cook-Off is officially coming back to Franklin Street in 2026 and it’s landing right in the heart of Mardi Gras season, which honestly feels perfect.

A Little Louisiana Flavor Right Here in Evansville

Hosted by the Franklin Street Events Association, the Gumbo Cook-Off takes over Franklin Street on Saturday, February 21st, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Think rich roux, spicy sausage, seafood gumbo, cold drinks, and a street full of people ready to celebrate like it’s Mardi Gras, Evansville style.

Fat Tuesday is all about indulging a little before Lent, and what better way to do that than by sampling gumbo from some of your favorite local bars and restaurants? If you can't be New Orleans, Evansville makes their own New Orleans version.

Eat Gumbo, Support Local, Repeat

One of the best parts of this event? It’s not just about who has the best gumbo bragging rights. Each participating bar or restaurant teams up with a local non-profit, meaning every ticket and every taste helps give back to the community.

So yes—you’re eating gumbo, but you’re also supporting local businesses AND local causes. That’s a win-win-win.

The Mug, the Map, and the Mardi Gras Vibes

If you’re a Gumbo Cook-Off regular, you already know the drill. The 2026 commemorative mug design, the event map, and more details are still to come and for a lot of people, that mug is basically a Mardi Gras souvenir you can use all year long.

Add in beads, Cajun flavors, festive drinks, and a packed Franklin Street, and you’ve got one of the most fun winter events Evansville has to offer.

Mark Your Calendar Now

If February feels like it drags on every year, this is your reminder that Mardi Gras season brings the fun with it. Grab your friends, bundle up if needed, and head to Franklin Street for an afternoon that feels like a mini New Orleans celebration—no plane ticket required.

More details are coming soon, so keep an eye on the Franklin Street Events Association and local event pages. Until then, start practicing your gumbo strategy… because you’re definitely not going to want to miss this one.
