Kathy and I attended the Jimmy Buffett Concert in Nashville Memorial Day Weekend. The day long event began with a Street Party to beat all Street Parties. Nashville became Margaritaville. Thousands of Parrotheads flooded the closed streets to drink,  listen to music, drink,  play games, drink, check out the outrageous outfits, and did I mention drink? There was also a special guest many of you might know, Kenny Chesney.

It had been a year since Jimmy had been in Music City and flooding closed down the city and left thousands of Parrotheads trying to find a way out after the concert. Hours later the floor of the Bridgestone Arena, where the concert was held, was knee-deep in water. A year later Nashville had mostly recovered. The only real evidence of the massive devastation is Opry Mills still being closed with no immediate plans to reopen (mainly due to insurance complications). Still everything else is back and going strong. If anyone wants to see how a city can survive a natural disaster, look to Nashville.

Getting back to the party. The Street Fair opened at 11am and ended around 7:30 just in time for the 8pm show. After the 2 1/2 hr. concert the streets again filled up with fans who partied till early Sunday morning.

Buffett concerts are very interesting because a big part of the event is the Parrothead (Buffett fan). They come from hundreds of miles to be a part of the Margaritaville experience and they dress the part. See the Parrothead pictures for a sample of acceptable attire.

Both Kathy and I dream of the day when our hair turns gray (It already has),and we can finally sail away to that mystical magical Margaritaville. Until then we will join the thousands of others and sample a little bit at a time attending Jimmy Buffett concerts each summer.
