Karen Miller (pictured at left), Executive Director of the Owensboro Daviess County Convention and Visitors Bureau, has been named the 2012 Member of the Year by the Kentucky Travel Industry Association. KTIA unites the Commonwealth’s tourism-related businesses and organizations through advocacy, collaboration, and professional development. The Member of the Year has made outstanding contributions to KTIA and their mission of promoting Kentucky tourism. Karen Miller has been in tourism for decades and it is very fitting that her contributions have been recognized by this prestigious statewide organization. The Owensboro Daviess County Convention and Visitors Bureau has enjoyed consistently improving years under Karen’s leadership, this despite the loss of the largest hotel and convention center with the demolition of the Executive Inn in 2007.

Tourism in Kentucky has a significant economic affect. The third largest industry, it employs one in ten Kentuckians, provides $3.3 billion in salaries, and generates $11 Billion in economic impact annually. It has a significant impact locally as well, which is expected to grow as we move forward with the Convention Center and the addition of two new Downtown hotels.

WOMI congratulates Karen!!
