All I think of when I see or hear about the "Running of the Bulls" in Pamplona, Spain is the opening scene of the movie City Slickers. It's all fun until someone really gets hurt and more than a couple usually does each year.

One of the five hospitalized on the opening run on Saturday, was a 23-year-old man from Florence, Kentucky. He and a 40-year-old man from the host country were both gored in the thigh. A 46-year-old man from San Francisco was gored in the neck; the government said his injuries required surgery. Two other Spanish men sustained head injuries.

The festival draws about 1 million spectators every year. Americans travel to Pamplona to follow in the footsteps of author Ernest Hemingway who wrote about the San Fermin festival in his 1926 novel The Sun Also Rises.

Sadly, the bulls that run are put to death in dramatic fashion in the afternoon bullfights.
