A Kentucky man should totally win Granddad of the Year.  He created a daily tradition with his grandson and we think it's the sweetest thing EVER!

GRANDPARENTS ARE PRETTY DARN SPECIAL

If you are lucky enough to still have your grandparents around you are absolutely blessed.  My grandparents lived on a very large farm.  From sun up to sun down, they worked in the fields and Grandmother worked around the house and in the kitchen.  What I do know is every single time I came to visit my Granddaddy would stop what he was doing in the fields and come to scoop me up in his arms.  It never failed.  He was always right there to give me a big hug and tell me how very much he loved me.

This is my Granddaddy.  He was a special man.  I'm thankful he went out of his way for me.

STARTING A VERY SPECIAL SCHOOL TRADITION

I've known Eddie Atherton and his daughter, Courtney for many years now.  I'd say long before Courtney was ever even thinking about children or Eddie was thinking about being a Grandpa.   Eddie and I worked for the City of Owensboro together years ago and I have to say to see this teddy bear side of him is pretty awesome.

Courtney his only daughter has two boys, Hayden and Tanner.  When Hayden started school Eddie went into full-on AWESOME Grandpa mode.   Here's how Courtney describes it;

Hayden started Kindergarten in August of 2020 (Covid!) My dad has always been excited to participate in all of the school activities, lunches, etc. and Covid put a damper on that. Every morning we pass my parents house on the way to school. So on the first day of Kindergarten, my dad (aka Pappaw) was out with a special first day of school sign. I warned him that if he did it the second day, he was committed for the year and “starting something”. He was just fine with that and has was outside each morning of his Kindergarten year with a special sign for Hayden from the driveway. He created a library of signs and it even turned into reading practice in the morning. When first grade came around, I warned him (again!) that if he starts first grade he’s committing to all of  elementary school…and Hayden as a little brother 4.5 years younger.

Courtney says her dad couldn't do for one and not the other so, you guessed it he's back out again for Tanner doing the same thing.  She says the only time he isn't in the driveway is when it is raining and he is on the porch or a time or two he's been on a fishing excursion.
