LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The National Weather Service in Louisville has issued a winter storm warning for most of northern Kentucky.

Meteorologist Linda Gilbert said Sunday that rain is expected to change to snow as temperatures drop to the mid-20s. She says some parts of Kentucky could get up to five inches of snow.

The winter storm warning is until 7 a.m. Monday.

Forecasters are calling for highs in the mid-30s later in the day.

WINCHESTER, Ky. (AP) — The Clark County Public School District is enlisting the use of canines to help create a safer school environment.

The Winchester Sun reports the board of education approved a measure last week that will partner the school system with K9 Resources, a group that focuses on detection and offers drug-free services to businesses and schools.

K9 Resources uses dogs that have been trained to work with children and are safe in a school environment.

Clark County Superintendent Paul Christy says the dogs can search for not only drugs but other contraband, such as cigarettes or lighters.

Christy says he used the group in three different districts where he has worked and saw a difference in all three.

AQUARIUM-SHARK RAYS

NEWPORT, Ky. (AP) — The Newport Aquarium is celebrating the births of six healthy shark rays.

The Kentucky Enquirer reports they are among the first of their kind born in captivity.

Three males and three females were born Jan. 24, but aquarium officials waited a few days to make the announcement.

General Curator Mark Dvorak said the animal husbandry team wanted some time to observe the newborns and wanted to see how many would survive. A seventh pup died shortly after birth.

Dvorak said the pups were removed from their mother, Sweet Pea, because sharks don't care for their young.

The births came earlier than expected. The aquarium had just announced on Jan. 14 that Sweet Pea was pregnant.

T25-LSU-KENTUCKY

No. 13 Kentucky tops No. 14 LSU 63-56

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Bria Goss scored 11 points, including two clutch free throws with 10.8 seconds remaining, to lift No. 13 Kentucky to a 63-56 win over 14th-ranked LSU Sunday at Memorial Coliseum.

The Wildcats (17-5, 5-4 Southeastern Conference) rebounded from Thursday's 58-56 setback at Georgia and ended the Lady Tigers' three-game winning streak. The Wildcats had lost two of their previous three games.

Kentucky led 48-33 with 11:22 remaining but LSU fought back down the stretch, narrowing the deficit to 60-56 with 17 seconds remaining. The Wildcats made 3 of 4 free throws in the closing seconds to seal the win.

A steal by Goss on an inbounds play resulted in her game-clinching free throws. Kentucky made eight 3-pointers, including two by Jennifer O'Neill.

O'Neill followed Goss with 10 points, scoring eight in the first half.

Raigyne Moncrief scored 14 points in the second half and led LSU (17-5, 6-3) with 19 points. Theresa Plaisance added 13 for the Lady Tigers, who committed 18 turnovers.
