Count me among those who make an online beeline for seafood restaurant searches when I'm traveling. I love fish. Any fish. And I can say that without hesitation because I have honestly NEVER eaten anything that comes out of the water that I didn't like.

Oh, well, yes, it has to be prepared well, but I've checked that requirement off almost every single time, so no worries there. I even like the things that make many of my friends make a face. Oysters? Octopus? Bring it.

Now, I understand that I'm going to find octopus at every seafood joint. And some of those "joints" specialize in catfish; around here, most of them come out of a lake or a river.

GOOD SEAFOOD RESTAURANTS IN LOUISVILLE

In downtown Owensboro, there used to be a place called Kingfish. My family LOVED it. The one in Louisville is still open and is, presumably, a competitor of another seafood place that has an odd tradition that just came to an end.

MIKE LINNIG'S IN LOUISVILLE IS SET TO REOPEN AFTER A TWO-MONTH HIATUS

If folks have raved to you about Mike Linnig's like they have to me, then you might have been disappointed to see red-bannered message that reads "TEMPORARILY CLOSED" when you've searched it the past couple of months. That's because Mike Linnig's closes every year in November and December.

(Incidentally, is it just me, or does that video look like it came straight out of an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives? Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Yes, someone to needs to get a hold of Guy Fieri.)

MIKE LINNIG'S HAS BEEN SERVING UP SEAFOOD FOR NEARLY 100 YEARS

Anyway, you may wonder why they'd forgo the holiday season, which is likely the busiest time of the year for most restaurants. Well, it's because the folks at Mike Linnig's want to spend time with their families. And they can afford it; Mike Linnig's is heading into its 99th season of delivering the goods to Louisville seafood fans or ANY seafood fan who happens to wander into its southwest Louisville location.

A couple of years ago, Mike Linnig's added a new pavilion to account for demand. It also provided more spacing during the onset of the COVID pandemic. It's also a heated pavilion, once again spotlighting how invaluable patio heaters have become to the restaurant industry.

It's been a very long time since a close friend of mine recommended I visit Mike Linnig's, and I confess I forgot all about it. I'm happy it popped back up in a recent conversation so that I can now set reminders for myself not to forget it's there.

Mike Linnig's reopens for its 99th season on January 26th.
