Ohio County Teenager is One of the Most Gifted Fiddle Players in Kentucky
Mackenzie Bell can play the fiddle. No, I mean Mackenzie Bell can really PLAY the fiddle. Earlier this month, the Ohio County, Kentucky teenager snagged 2nd place at the Kentucky State Fiddle Championship, which was held in downtown Owensboro at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
That incredible honor isn't Mackenzie's first. Back in 2019, when she was just 14-years-old, she was crowned the Georgia State Fiddle Champion.
If you look up the word "prodigy" in the dictionary, the definition reads- a person, especially a young one, endowed with exceptional qualities or abilities. I think it's safe to say that Mackenzie is indeed a prodigy.
There's no doubt that she has learned from the best. Mackenzie takes lessons from Randy Lanham (pictured with her above and below).
She also takes lessons from Steven Stewart from Kentucky Shine, the band that won WBKR's Friday Night Fight talent contest last year at Friday After 5.
In addition to knocking down runner-up honors at the Kentucky State Fiddle Championship, playing at marquee festivals and events like ROMP, Mackenzie can also be heard in the Smoky Mountains. She's a regular performer and crew member at the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge. If you've never been, GO! It's a truly moving experience.
In the next couple of weeks, Mackenzie is going to be even busier. She's prepping for the release of her third album, Mackenzie Bell 15. Here's the official cover art for it!
This morning, Mackenzie visited with Angel and me on the WBKR morning show and played for us. We were blown away by her talent. You will be too. Check this out!
And here's Mackenzie sharing with us how she got started playing the fiddle.
