You Can Ride in a Hot Air Balloon at ROMP This Year in Owensboro

Have you ever ridden in a hot air balloon before? I actually have. A few years ago, I was invited to do a ride-along to help promote the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden's annual hot air balloon festival. I had never done that before, so I was thrilled to get the opportunity. So, I called my mom and asked her if she wanted to go too. We climbed into a hot air balloon piloted by my friend Travis and we glided over the western side of Owensboro.

Here's a shot of the balloons traveling with beside us. Yes! I took that photo from the basket of our balloon. That journey was so much fun. I'll admit it. It's slightly harrowing to know that you're basically aloft thanks to a giant balloon that's being inflated with gas and fire (LOL), but there's something exceptionally peaceful about it too. Unlike an airplane or helicopter, which are really loud, there's a quiet and stillness with hot air balloons. It's hard to explain it, so I suggest that you try it.

And here's a cool way for you to do just that! The Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum just made an exciting announcement about this year's ROMP. They're going to be giving you the chance to experience the popular bluegrass concert from the air- in a hot air balloon.

They made the announcement over Memorial Day Weekend!

ROMP is following the lead of the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden and offering tethered rides and they've partnered with Don Moore Automotive Group to make the rides possible.

Rides will be offered on Friday night and Saturday night of the festival.
