Daviess County’s Joe Humphreys is a Kentucky Mr. Football Contender
Meet one of the top contenders for Kentucky's Mr. Football for 2021. There's no question in my mind that Joe Humphreys is one of the top recruits in Western Kentucky, but will he win this prestigious award? If you've watched Joe play this year, you know he has a great shot to bring home the award. #2
I must confess that I'm a little biased, but if you look at Joe Humphreys's stats, they speak for themselves. I've known Joe since the day he was born. My husband has been friends with his dad, Todd, since their Owensboro Middle School days. We've watched Joe grow through the years into a fine young man and a very talented athlete. Molly is his Mom and a beautiful person that I also call a friend. We've had a lot of fun cheering Joe on in the stands this season and we can't wait to see what's up next in his future. Joe is a senior so it will be his last year in school and he's making the most of it.
Joe Humphreys could be the very first Kentucky Mr. Football to win the award out of Owensboro. Travis Atwell is the only one close to Owensboro to win the award back in 1999. He was playing for Hancock County High School at the time. This would be such a big deal for Owensboro and the Humphreys family. Scouts from D1 schools have already been eyeing Joe, but this would increase his stock. Where ever he decides to play in college, there will be road trips in our future!
Sportswriters and broadcasters from around the state will make the final decision, and we hope that Joe will be chosen as the 2021 Kentucky Mr. Football.
After a summer football camp, 247.com had this to say about Joe's performance, "One of the best Class of 2022 quarterbacks at Louisville's camp on Saturday was Daviess County's, Joe Humphreys. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Humphreys tested well and then was sharp in drills and one-on-one competition, throwing a nice ball down the field."
Daviess County is having one of the best seasons in recent memory. They are a well-rounded team on both sides of the football. Gunnar Evans is an incredible runner. Decker Renfrow and Max Dees are stud receivers. As a matter of fact, they're both ranked 4th and 5th in receiving in Class 6A which is impressive. I should also mention that receivers Carter Hamilton and Isaiah Tomes are just outside of the Top 20. Then you have kicker Sean Higgs who's a scoring machine for the team. He's ranked 2nd best for scoring at least 3 PAT per game in Class 6A play.
Now, let's talk about the Daviess County defense which is one of the best I've seen in a long time. Gunnar Evans and Parker Crews have tackled their way to 1st and 2nd in most solo tackles in their division. Jack Ball ranks in the Top 20 as well. Back to Gunnar, as he is #1 in division play for forced fumbles as well. Mason Boswell is a name that you'll want to remember. He is the 2nd best at grabbing interceptions in Class 6A play. Max Dees sits at #5 in the division. There are so many talented players on this football team, giving them a chance to win a state championship this season.
You thought those stats were impressive, now let's talk about Joe!
