John Higgins, a referee in the 2017 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight game in which North Carolina defeated Kentucky 75-73, has filed a lawsuit against Kentucky Sports Radio.

In the suit, which was filed in U.S. District Court in Nebraska (Higgins lives in Omaha), he accused the media company of creating an atmosphere that led to death threats against himself and his family--this according to ESPN.

Higgins and his family were bombarded with threatening phone and email messages.

He even had to take down his business' Facebook page; Higgins owns a roofing company in Omaha.

Higgins is suing for damages in excess of $75,000. The specific amount will be determined by the judge.
