When I was a kid, Sunday afternoon drives were a given when Dad had Sunday off. I'm not sure I could come up with the number of times my family ate Sunday dinner at Rough River Dam State Resort Park.

My love of road trips (of any length) and visiting state parks (anywhere) stems from those mini-adventures of my youth.

But, yeah, Rough River was a go-to. And, honestly, it just doesn't look any different now than it did back then.

And I love that. Very nostalgic.

And I doubt the new roof--part of a statewide "sprucing up" initiative called "Refreshing the Finest"--will alter that feel. But I'm happy they're getting one.

In fact, I'm very happy about the commitment to our state parks. They generate a lot of tourism dollars.

If you share my sentiments, you'll be happy to know that, according to The Lane Report, upgrades are also planned for Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park, Barren River Lake State Resort Park, Pine Mountain State Resort Park, Lake Barkley State Resort Park, Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park, General Burnside State Park, Carter Caves State Resort Park, Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park, Lake Cumberland and Jenny Wiley State Resort Park.
