OPD Reminding Residents to Confirm Door to Door Credentials

On Wednesday, the Owensboro Police Department received a call about "suspicious circumstances" where a Kentucky Fire Marshal was in a neighborhood checking for working smoke detectors. Residents were concerned the individual was not legitimate.

After an investigation, OPD was able to confirm the individual was in fact from the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Even though this individual turned out to be legitimate, OPD is asking residents to be alert and to verify credentials for anyone going door to door before conducting business or allowing anyone to enter their residence.

Make sure you contact the business in question directly to confirm they do have a representative in your area/neighborhood. Call OPD dispatch at 270-687-8888 if you suspect they are not legitimate.
