OPD Reports Increases in Drug Overdoses, Issues Warning
The Owensboro Police Department is seeing a significant increase in drug overdoses where various types of prescription medications appear to have been altered with an unknown substance. They want the community to be aware.
In a press release issued today (May 26th, 2020), OPD explained that each of these overdoses have required the use of Naloxone (Narcan) in a lifesaving capacity. These pills were being taken recreationally after being obtained illegally.
They would like to remind us that medication should only be taken as prescribed by a doctor and only used by the person to whom it is prescribed.
Detectives with the Owensboro Police Department - Street Crimes Unit are investigating to determine the source of these altered pills, and anyone with additional information is encouraged to call OPD at 270-687-8888, or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 270-687-8484.
