Last night Owensboro High School named a new Boys Varsity Soccer Coach.  Former Varsity Coach, Dale Poole, retired after the 2017 season leaving some pretty big cleats to fill!Ryan Haley will replace Poole.  Ryan is an Owensboro alum and also head the role of captain during his time on the OHS boys soccer team.

OHS Athletic Director Todd Harper had this to say “We are very excited about having Ryan,”  he also stated “He is a guy who grew up in our system and knows what is expected of him and our players and we are excited that he is our coach.”

Before being named Head Boys Coach Haley led the Owensboro Middle School boys soccer team since the 2010.    He has worked hard to grow the soccer program in the off season as well encouraging players to participate in an indoor program.  He believes relationships help players transition easy to the high school level.

“Being a coach is all about the relationships with your players,” said Haley. “I still have guys who are sophomores that are playing in college who will call me and even come back to work with the kids at the middle school level and that says a lot about the relationships we’ve built over the years.”

“I certainly have big shoes to fill, but it will be an honor and privilege to take over for Coach Poole,” said Haley. “As a player, I got to see what he expected not only from his players, but also what he expected from his coaches.

Haley attended Western Kentucky University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree and also a Masters in Teacher Education from University of the Cumberlands.  He is also a 2002 graduate of Owensboro.

I remember watching Ryan play as a kid.  He was tough and skilled!  I love the idea of keeping it in the family.  Ryan is an Owensboro Alum.  His roots are here in Owensboro and he has a love for the Red Devils.

I look forward to watching the Devils play and hearing of future success.  Best of Luck to Ryan, his wife Crystal, and their family.  And Happy Retirement to Coach Poole...he leaves an incredible legacy behind!
