Since I travel past Legion Park a lot, I am a little surprised when I don't see anyone playing basketball on the court next to Byers Avenue.

I've seen folks out there in weather I thought would be too cold for basketball. I guess I should know that, in Kentucky, there's no such thing.

Well, there IS, but you know what I mean.

What's becoming interesting, lately, is seeing lots of folks on the STREET SOCCER COURT while the basketball court is empty.

Clearly, transforming that old tennis court into a street soccer facility was a grand slam home run.

(Man, am I mixing MY sports!)

Well, I'm not the only one who thinks that.

Legion Park's street soccer court has been named the Kentucky Recreation and Parks Society Facility of the Year!

P3Ky.com goes to say that a new trend is growing among Kentucky's city parks wherein private partnerships are developed "that fund public recreational projects."

Personally, as a proponent of getting kids outside in nice weather, I think it's an extraordinary initiative and look forward to seeing more ideas like this one come to fruition.
