A decision has already been made to remove confederate statues in Lexington. Will the same thing happen in Owensboro?

Folks on both sides of this debate are speaking up and an online petition has begun to circulate.

The statue has stood on the corner of 3rd and Frederica for over 100 years.

Eyewitness News/WEHT's Mike Pickett spoke with Owensboroans who are on opposite sides of the issue.

He also spoke with Judge Executive Al Mattingly, who indicated that the statue will continue to stand where it has for more than a century.

And social media--particularly Facebook--has become a sounding board for those who feel it should stay AND those who want it gone.

Stay tuned.
