‘Psych’ Season 8: Mira Sorvino Replaces Maggie Lawson?
'Psych' will soon present what could be its last panel at Comic-Con 2013, debuting the long-awaited musical extravaganza episode along with the reveal of a fan-chosen plot for an upcoming episode, but so-called 'Psych'-O's have another major announcement to fawn over. Oscar-winner Mira Sorvino has joined the season 8 cast in an important recurring role, but what does it mean for longtime series star Maggie Lawson?
According to TVLine, Sorvino will appear beginning with the seventh episode as Santa Barbara PD’s new head detective Betsy Brannigan, a sweet and reserved woman who displays a surprisingly fierce competence at her job. Apart from her ruthless record, Brannigan excels at sparkly craft making, and has become known for her affable demeanor quickly turning once she pulls out the dual Colt .45s.
Sorvino's late-in-the-game arrival to the series most likely stems from longtime-series star Maggie Lawson, whose character Juliet "Jules" O'Hara will sit out a number of episodes while Lawson navigates her role on ABC sitcom 'Back in the Game.' 'Psych' season 8 will consist of 10 episodes, up from the initial order of 8. Thus far, USA has not confirmed the coming run as 'Psych''s final season.
‘Psych’s upcoming Comic-Con panel will feature series stars James Roday, Dulé Hill, Corbin Bernsen, Maggie Lawson, Timothy Omundson and Kirsten Nelson, along with creator and executive producer Steve Franks, and executive producers Chris Henze and Kelly Kulchak. July 17 will see an exclusive midnight screening of the upcoming ‘Psych: The Musical’ two-hour episode, airing this winter on USA.
Well, what say you? Are you happy to have 'Psych' cover its bases for the (potentially) final season?
