Resurrection Cemetery in Philpot Needs Sponsorships for Wreaths Across America Ceremony

Every year, members of communities around the country gather at cemeteries to honor and pay tribute to the men and women who have given their lives for our freedom.

The special ceremony is called Wreaths Across America and during each event, live wreaths are placed on the graves of our veterans.

Last year, nearly 2 million wreaths were lain on headstones at 1,640 participating cemeteries across the nation.

At Resurrection Cemetery in Philpot, east of Owensboro, each name is read aloud and that brave individual is honored with a formal military salute.

But this year, the Civil Air Patrol, which conducts the ceremony, is experiencing a great need for sponsorships.

Owensboro's CAP Squadron finance officer, Silas Deane, noted that there weren't enough wreaths in 2018 for every veteran's grave and that, this year, CAP is still short of its goals.

The sponsorships are $15 per wreath and for $49, you're able to sponsor a wreath and have an extra one delivered to a veterans family member.

Think about how special a delivery like that would be to those who've lost loved ones in service.

This year's ceremony at Resurrection Cemetery is set for December 14th at 12 noon.
